How FilmFX handles photos, local browser data, and basic website traffic information.

Last updated: 2026-11-04

The short version

FilmFX processes photos locally in your browser. A photo you open in the studio is not uploaded to FilmFX, is not stored on a FilmFX server, and is not used to train a model.

FilmFX serves static product pages and a small anonymous measurement endpoint. It does not provide accounts, payments, server-side photo uploads, or a user database.

Photos used in the filter studio

When you choose, drag, or paste a photo into the studio:

  • your browser decodes the file on your device;
  • color, tone, grain, and vignette processing runs through the browser Canvas API; and
  • the exported image is generated and downloaded by your browser.

Closing or refreshing the page clears the active editing session. Your browser or operating system may separately retain normal download, clipboard, or recent-file history according to your settings.

LUTs and preferences stored in your browser

An imported .cube LUT is saved to this browser's IndexedDB so it remains available on a later visit. It is not uploaded. You can remove a LUT in the studio or clear FilmFX site data through your browser.

Language, theme, and similar preferences may be stored in a cookie or local browser storage. These values stay on your device unless the browser includes them in a normal web request.

Favorite filters, up to six recent filters and up to twenty named recipes are stored in this browser's local storage. Recipes contain filter settings and the working color space, not photos or imported LUT files. You can delete a saved recipe in the studio or clear site data in your browser. These preferences do not sync between devices.

If you enable offline editing, a service worker downloads public app files, built-in filters and sample images into browser Cache Storage. Your chosen photos are not added to that cache. Browser cleanup or storage eviction can remove offline files; you can enable offline editing again to restore them. App updates wait for open sessions to close or for your explicit update action. Refreshing or updating still clears the active photo.

Share cards and exported color LUT files are generated on your device. Website credit on a share card is optional and off by default. If you choose a sharing app, that app handles the image you send under its own settings and terms.

Anonymous studio measurements

FilmFX counts steps such as opening a photo, preparing a preview, choosing a filter and generating an export to find broken or difficult parts of the editor. Measurements contain a fixed page category, language, mobile/desktop category, sample/user-photo category, broad visit source, built-in filter identifier (or “custom”), export format and elapsed time. They do not contain your photo, pixels, filename, imported LUT name, full referring URL, search query or a user/session identifier. No analytics cookie or persistent tracking identifier is created.

We also count actions such as copying a share link, handing a link to a sharing app and opening a shared look. These measurements do not include the shared URL or its editing parameters. A shared look link itself contains only built-in color and texture settings; it does not include your photo, crop, date stamp or custom LUT files.

We count recipe saves, share-card generation/download/handoff and color-LUT exports using the same fixed dimensions. Recipe names, recipe parameters, share-card pixels and LUT contents are excluded. Handoff to a sharing app does not confirm that you published a post.

These measurements are sent to FilmFX's own endpoint and stored with Cloudflare Analytics Engine. Studio measurements respect the browser's Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Export success means the file was generated and a browser download was initiated; it does not confirm where you saved it.
